Review of Corelle Livingware 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4, Sandstone

I just received the sets I ordered and am more than pleased. From the picture, I expected them to be a slightly darker shade of beige, but am happy to report the color matches the background color of many other Corelle patterns... not quite white, not quite beige. The solid color is elegant and neutral -- the better to show off culinary delights, or perhaps a beautiful tablecloth or centerpiece.

After half a century of living, the little things mean a lot to me. I appreciate Corelle's durability, reasonable price, ease of cleaning and forgiving properties. It also stacks nicely in a minimum of space, unlike heavy stoneware pieces. If a piece does eventually get broken it's not a big deal.... after all, I've never had a piece break during the first four or five years of use and I'm the Queen of Klutziness. I've found Corelle dinnerware to be very lightweight (a plus for those of us with arthritis) and forgiving (a plus for those of us who are dexterity-challenged) and extremely durable (a real plus during the "hurricane hour" before work and school, or when the kids gather at our house for a snack).I can stack three sets (12 place settings) in a minimum of cabinet space, and it's a breeze to load them in the dishwasher because they are very lightweight.I really like the mugs that come with this set, as they are heavier and the coffee stays hot longer than with some mugs. I have noticed in the past that the Corelle mugs have outlasted every other mug we purchased.

I did consider buying chinaware this time around.... for about a minute. I have seen so many "fine china" (partial) sets over the years -- usually covered with scratches and stains, sporting chips, nicks and flea bites. I suppose someone felt they couldn't throw them away because they were so expensive and "valuable."It amazes me that some people would spend up to several hundred dollars for china dinnerware... in fact, up to several hundered dollars per place setting.Yes, way.

Luxury comes in degrees, and is all relative. To most people in this world, Corelle dinnerware would likely seem quite luxurious, and I feel blessed to be able to afford it, and I'm thankful for the freedom and value it provides me, and the cleanup time it saves me every day, 365 days a year.
