We spent hours looking in various stores for dinnerware then found the Shadow Box Jade set online. We ordered it online without ever having seen it in person and were pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It has a solid feel without being overly bulky. The edges of the plates and outside of the bowls have a 3D look reminiscent of a basket, perhaps one woven of bamboo. The center of the plates and inside of the bowls have a speckly green tint that the photos we found online do not do justice to.
We especially like the bowls, which are considerably larger than those we saw with many dinnerware sets.It will hold a hefty bowl of cereal with milk with without risking overflow. The cups too hold what I'd consider 1 1/2 to 2 cups of coffee.
At $80 for a 16-piece 4 settings it was a relatively good value.
Our only complaints were:
3 pieces in 2 separate boxes arrived chipped or broken (but were quickly replaced by Amazon at no cost to us).
There's more variation in the colors (light and dark) from piece to piece than I would have liked. The cups in particular appear to have been somewhat sloppily painted and are considerably darker than the other pieces. In that sense it was lucky break that some pieces were damaged as we could do our own quality control, selecting the best matched pieces from among multiple boxes before returning one box with the damaged pieces.
Another downside is that (for now at least) Pfaltzgraff doesn't seem to make any more pieces (e.g. serving bowls or platters) in this pattern.
