Review of iittala 8-Inch Glass Jar

iittala 8-Inch Glass JarI wrote the following review of the Sea Blue jars, but I am posting it here, since it may help someone considering the Blueberry Blue jars.

Okay, these are extremely pricey for storing food and very fragile (I very lightly brushed one of the lids against something and now it has a small hairline crack - if you have children, you probably don't want these in your kitchen).

You don't really need these, but if you are into kitchen decor, I can tell you that they are breathtakingly beautiful.I have the Sea Blue, but I would guess that the other colors are just as nice. The Sea Blue has an ethereal feel and really does invoke the sea.

I have the jars in all three sizes. The large ones are perfect for storing pasta, soba and udon. The medium are great for storing dried seaweed (which fits very well with the ethereal ocean quality of the Sea Blue color), grains, rice, etc.The small ones are nice for small quantities of dried beans, thickeners, etc.

I looked high and low for kitchen canisters before buying these and I really like the fact that they are elongated rather than wide - you can line up more of these on a kitchen counter than you could of a typical canister, which seems to very squat.Ironically, my second favorite storage jars after these pricey ones are the dirt cheap glass Martha Stewart canisters at K-Mart.Since I have limited cabinet space in my kitchen and store a lot of food on the kitchen counter, I've mixed and matched these jars with the Martha Stewart glass jars.
