I received these plates as part of a set for our wedding five years ago.I also bought another set three years ago when it went on clearance at a big-box store.There is a noticeable quality difference between the two sets, and it is most evident in the plates.The plates from the newer set are thinner, lighter, and more brittle than the original set.So far I have not had any problems with the salad plates due to quality differences, but it is something you may want to be aware of, depending on where you buy your dishes.The plates are a good size for a variety of purposes.Although intended primarily as a salad plate, I find that they are large enough to use as a dinner plate for small meals.We also use them for breakfast items, sandwiches/snacks, and desserts.Microwaving is no problem; just be sure to use a pot holder, as the plate can get quite hot.The plates fit nicely in the dishwasher on either the top or bottom rack.
I like that the matte/shiny pattern extends all the way into the middle of the plate.The Nautica Arctic Night 11.25-Inch Dinner Plate only has the decoration around the rim, with matte only in the food area.We have done some nice artistic food pictures using these plates.
Overall, these are a solid product, and I hope to continue using them for years to come.
