Review of iittala Tools Piano 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

For a while, we've been looking for the most satisfying and unique flatware for our daily use and also for casual/formal parties. It finally ended and in the process, we ended up owning 3 different sets. Two of them are made by iittala, a Finland company who makes their products in finland and not in CHINA.

After checking out lot of local department stores we first got Villeroy & Boch New Wave Flatware set which we returned as it didn't feel good in hand. Now, after owning iittala, New Wave looks terrible.

After lot of browsing and research online and in local stores, we ended up owning WMF Taika Flatware for daily use as amazon has incredible deal on 43-piece set. WMF is a European company but the flatware is made in China.

For formal parties, we got iittala's Artik Flatware set. This set has very similar finish to Piano flatware and is more affordable for us.

Then, we were very fortunate to find a bargain deal on Piano dinner forks and knives from a charity organisation that sells on ebay! Of the three, we like Piano the most. No wonder the price is high! It sure shows in the finish and style of the product. The stainless steel has a very vibrant shine to it and the handles are thick and very very comfortable to hold. They are not heavy since the inside of the handles is hallow but the outside of it is so thick that it feels as if its not hallow inside.

This set is sure to get more attention than anything else you put on the table to guests.In fact, iittala suddenly seems to be our favorite brand for kitchen. Amazon just started to carry lot of their products and I placed an order for their daily use drinkware.

Review of iittala Origo Nut Cup, Set of 6

I got these little cups as Amazon had Set of 6 for $18.97 which makes this one of the best deals ever at Amazon. I just received my order in one HUGE box. I was over excited that Amazon really shipped me 6 cups as each cup sells over $20 everywhere else.

When I opened I found only 1 cup in that huge box. But believe me, I would easily pay $19 for just 1 cup. That's how good this porcelain is. Almost like the collectables form Lladro. Very thin and fine quality and the colors are very pleasant.

Struggle with Amazon: After several exchange of e-mails and amazon shipping me several replacements which all AGAIN came with just 1-cup instead of 6, amazon finally said sorry and canceled my orders. But they still didn't change the item description to 1 cup for a very long time. Several of my friends who ordered had similar problems.

Review of iittala Stella Juice Glasses, Set of 2

These glasses look like fine crystal but they are substantial and can be washed in the top of the dishwaser.They feel good in the hand and hold just the right amount for a serving of fruit juice.They look elegant when placed on the table so I enjoy using them every day.

Review of iittala Mango 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

I got this as a wedding present in 1976, and the designer is Nanny (not Nancy) Still.

The narrow shapes of the spoons, in particular, are very nice when eating, as they don't rub the sides of your mouth when you take a bite.On the table, they create a very elegant and contemporary look.I love my set, which included a wood case.

I didn't get the iced tea spoons, which I wish the current manufacturer would make again.I'd buy them immediately!!

These are a very nice set of cordials you'll want to use all the time.I bought them as a 3rd year anniversary gift, and am very pleased by their look and feel.Many crystal cordials are very delicate and you feel like they could break without notice, but not these.
I recommend these to anyone who values well designed products that are beautiful and can stand up to everyday use if you want also.

Review of Iittala Kartio 13-Ounce Tumblers, Set of 2

We love these glasses - they are pure in design and well made. Much better than the flimsy (and often pricey) glassware I have bought from Williams & Sonoma and Crate and Barrel. The light blue color is deeper than displayed online, but that wasn't an issue. The color makes the glass resemble an art piece.

Review of Iittala Kartio 7-Ounce Tumblers, Set of 2

You can trust anything made by Iittala to be high quality and everlasting. Pretty much all Finnish families uses Iittala glass in non-everyday setting, but I have used my glasses daily for years and not one of them has broken...very thick glass. I brought 6 of these and 6 wineglasses from Finland 7 years ago and I wash them in the dishwasher everytime. The blue glass is very pretty and makes orange juice look "fancier". Could not be happier and will always use Iittala!!!

Review of iittala Tapio 8-Ounce Red Wine Set of 2, Clear

We had these glasses (the whole series) in our house when I was growing up. I loved them as a kid, and I still love them. When my niece got married recently, I gave her a set of these, and she loved them. Leave it to the Finns to design something that looks just as sleek and modern today as decades ago. They are dishwasher safe, but I've found that Iittala glass is fairly delicate. I just wouldn't risk putting them in there.

Review of iittala Artik 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

I fell for it's contemporary look and risked buying a 20-piece set witout seeing it outside. I was skeptical about my purchase until I received. I took this risk with the confidence that iittala makes very high quality products.

My trust on iittala brand turned out true. These are great piece of flatware which can't be matched by anything we see in most local department stores. We immediately returned the Villeroy and Boch New Wave Flatware set we got from Bloomingdales as it pales (in a very big way) in comparison to this. Frankly, these two shouldn't even be compared. That's how good the build quality is of this set. The stainless steel has some special kind of shine that makes it look very attractive and at the same time very unique. These pieces are very heavy and feel very good in hand.

We liked them so much that we are now looking into adding more of iittala brand items to our kitchen and home decor.

Review of iittala 8-Inch Glass Jar

I wrote the following review of the Sea Blue jars, but I am posting it here, since it may help someone considering the Blueberry Blue jars.

Okay, these are extremely pricey for storing food and very fragile (I very lightly brushed one of the lids against something and now it has a small hairline crack - if you have children, you probably don't want these in your kitchen).

You don't really need these, but if you are into kitchen decor, I can tell you that they are breathtakingly beautiful.I have the Sea Blue, but I would guess that the other colors are just as nice.The Sea Blue has an ethereal feel and really does invoke the sea.

I have the jars in all three sizes.The large ones are perfect for storing pasta, soba and udon.The medium are great for storing dried seaweed (which fits very well with the ethereal ocean quality of the Sea Blue color), grains, rice, etc.The small ones are nice for small quantities of dried beans, thickeners, etc.

I looked high and low for kitchen canisters before buying these and I really like the fact that they are elongated rather than wide - you can line up more of these on a kitchen counter than you could of a typical canister, which seems to very squat.Ironically, my second favorite storage jars after these pricey ones are the dirt cheap glass Martha Stewart canisters at K-Mart.Since I have limited cabinet space in my kitchen and store a lot of food on the kitchen counter, I've mixed and matched these jars with the Martha Stewart glass jars.

I have always liked how these looked, ever since I saw them at Tabla in NY City.They have great lines, nice heft, and fit the dishwasher.They are not as thin as Reidels but I would give them an excellent rating.
